Description

Clinical hypnosis is a powerful therapeutic that draws upon the skills, adaptability, and creativity of clinicians. It has been used in medical, dental, and psychological treatment for hundreds of years. Clinical hypnosis incorporates understanding of current concepts of neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, and neuroplasticity with effective patient relationship and communication skills.

Hypnosis is defined as a state of consciousness involving focused attention, reduced awareness of outside stimuli, and enhanced suggestibility. Through the use of clinical hypnosis, impediments to change are reduced and client awareness of inner capacities increase. The benefits of using clinical hypnosis in treatment situations include:

• Rapid establishment of rapport and identification of therapeutic goals

• Facilitation of change, reduction of barriers, ego-strengthening, and personal mastery

• Cost-effective, collaborative, and person-centered treatment

• Patient acquisition of life-long skills for better physical and mental health

The MSCH Level 1 training is a standardized training prescribed by the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH). It is the first of a series of training workshops that comprise ASCH certification in clinical hypnosis. The MSCH Level 1 training is taught by faculty from various health care disciplines who will demonstrate and teach participants the concepts, principles, and processes of hypnosis. The training includes didactic presentations, demonstrations, experiential exercises, and faculty-led small group practice. At the successful completion of the Level 1 training, participants will have been taught the knowledge and skills necessary to begin to integrate clinical hypnosis into their clinical practice. They will also be eligible for ASCH membership as well as participation in Intermediate (Level 2) and Advanced ASCH or ASCH-approved workshops.
