traumatic stress disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
Also included is a discussion of how anxiety affects relationships.
Participants will be able to apply practical interventions to patients who
experience anxiety and stress. Mental health and medical professionals can

Faculty for Special Topics (Thursday Evening)
Jennifer Stoos, M.DIV, LMFT and Ann Schissel PhD LP
As our world increases in diversity and complexity it becomes even more important to move nimbly with our clients as they share their perspectives, experiences, and values. Clients bring a wealth of new metaphors and stories from their personal and cultural landscapes. Their reflections become a prism for generating individualized hypnotic language to create powerful trance-formations. In this workshop we will share a conceptual framework, apply it to the hypnotic process, and teach a method to integrate client language and perspective into hypnosis.
OBJECTIVES:
- Name two ways that metaphor or storytelling can increase the efficacy of hypnosis
- Define and discuss how the concept of Dynamic Sizing can be used effectively in developing a treatment plan in hypnosis
- Using a case sample, identify culturally relevant information that can be used to create individualized experience for a specific client
Ann Schissel is a Doctoral-level Licensed Psychologist. She is currently in private practice at CenterLife Counseling and teaches as an Assistant Professor at St. Mary’s University of Minnesota in the Counseling Psychology Doctorate Program.
